Next Performance: Neil Simon's
Barefoot in the Park
is in rehearsal
Director Ed Strum has completed the casting of Neil Simon's madcap romantic comedy, Barefoot in the Park, and rehearsals have begun at our theatre at the corner of Guard St. and Tucker Ave. in Friday Harbor. Published and first performed on Broadway in 1964, Barefoot in the Park was Neil Simon's first major success and his longest running show.
The course of love does not run smoothly for newlyweds Paul and Corie Bratter during the first weeks of their marriage in their mall quirky 5th floor walk up Greenwich Village apartment while they contend with a nonfunctioning heater, a hole in the roof, and an upstairs neighbor who must go through the Bratters' flat to reach his apartment. Paul is a buttoned-down young man focused on becoming a successful lawyer while Corie is outgoing and romantic. Throw in Corie's meddling mother, Edith, who Corie tries to set up with Victor, and a hilarious sequence of misunderstandings that test the boundaries of their love, and you've got the perfect recipe for laughter.
Kamala Chambers will play Corie opposite Doug Schirmer as Paul, with Yvonne Buijs-Mancuso playing Ethel and Dorian Oliver cast as Victor. The cast is rounded out by Marc Wynn as the telephone installer and Ernest Pugh as the delivery man. Play dates are May 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, and 17, at 7:30 and May 4, 11, and 18 at 5:00 p.m. Mark your calendars as you won't want to miss this production.
